2021 Riversdale Cabernet Blend
This wine is inky with a purple hue with a vibrant garnet edge. Bold notes of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, courtesy of the Cabernet clones. This is beautifully intertwined with hints of violet and plum, a nod to the Merlot 181 and Malbec. Underlying notes of dried herbs and a subtle spiciness emerge, likely influenced by the Cabernet Franc 332. The Petit Verdot CH 8 adds a gentle waft of pencil shavings and crushed gravel. The entry is robust, reflecting the wine’s youth. The forward dark fruit flavours from the Cabernets meld harmoniously with juicy plum from the Merlot and the spicy kick of the Malbec. Mid-palate, one discerns the velvety tannins and an undercurrent of mineral richness, which might be attributed to the Riversdale terroir. Petit Verdot offers a structural backbone, enhancing the wine’s complexity with hints of dark chocolate and a whisper of fresh tobacco.
